Apparently, going to your local park to throw stale bread at ducks is completely wrong. It’s not good for the ducks and not that great for the pond, either. The remnants of soggy bread left behind encourage algae, rats, and disease.
Frozen peas are an ideal substitute for bread—the perfect size for little hands to hold and toss to the ducks. It turns out that green peas are a healthy treat for these feathered friends.
Cut-up grapes, oats, barley, cooked rice, birdseed, corn, and vegetable trimmings are also acceptable options.
