This is the best sewing tip I’ve ever learned.
To successfully thread a needle every time, wet the needle eye and then wet the tip of your thread (spit will work fine…lol). The moisture on the needle attracts the moisture on the wet tip of your thread and makes you able to thread your needles so much easier – especially with older eyes!
This tip also works to thread your sewing machine needle.
Works great with a sewing machine needle too. Wet needle with moistened fingertip after moistening the thread. Saves so much time and eye strain.
Thanks for posting this tip! I had always “wetted” the thread, but didn’t know to do the same with the needle! I’ve been doing this for 4 weeks now and it’s been a life saver! Thank you so much! <3
I think I’ll skip doing with the sewing machine. I can imagine my foot accidentally hitting the pedal and going to the emergency room with my sewing machine hanging from my tongue. I know I’m not contributing a helpful tip, but I’m in an especially good mood today.
You moisten your fingertip and touch the needle…simple. Works well.
I like the part “especially for older eyes”~ hey Mary how about a new category “for mature audiences only” ?
Wow! I can’t wait to try this.
I am currently sewing face masks due to the pandemic, and my eyes aren’t what they used to be. I have had trouble threading the needle on my sewing machine. It’s a “vintage” (20 year old machine) machine. I learned that term from YouTube, haha. The newer machines are self-threading, but I’m not paying thousands for a new sewing machine.
I knew the hint about wetting the thread, but I never considered wetting the needle. I assume this will work with a sewing machine needle, as well as a regular needle and thread.
Thanks.
Works great. Moisten needle with your fingertip after moistening thread. So easy and so effective.

I have never heard that one. I can hardly wait to try it out.
