How to Make Soap Scum Shower Cleaner

Honestly, I thought I’d died and gone to heaven the first time that I mixed up the recipe and tried this shower cleaner that one of my readers sent in. “Try it, you’ll see just how amazing this stuff works!,” he said.

So, I did and all I can say is WOW! It’s like magic.

Supplies

To make this magical shower cleaner you’ll  need:

  1. Blue Dawn
  2. White vinegar
  3. Spray bottle

An empty bottle on a table

Step 1: Get a spray bottle

Any size will do but you’ll have a much easier time with on that it is at least 32-ounce. And you want a good, heavy sprayer top with comfortable trigger. I love this 360º 32-oz Harris Spray Bottle (Amazon) because I don’t have to hold it vertically for it to spray flawlessly—upside down, sideways, anyway!

Step 2: Add Blue Dawn

Measure and pour in Blue Dawn: 1 cup for a 32-ounce bottle or 1/2 cup for a 16-ounce spray bottle.

Step 3: Add white vinegar

Fill the bottle the rest of the way to within about 1-inch of the top, with white vinegar.

Step 4: Apply the sprayer, shake to mix ingredients

Label clearly, and keep out of the reach of children.

To Use:

Make sure you have the window open and the exhaust fan running in the bathroom.

This cleaner is not toxic but it is strong-smelling. Spray liberally everything liberally—walls, fixtures, tile, grout, glass door, shower curtain, tub, shower floor—every surface in that shower and or tub. Allow to sit for at least 30 minutes, or as long as overnight if you can.

In the morning notice how all that soap scum, mildew and shower gunk is all soft and “melted.” It’s time to rinse it all down the drain.

If this is the first treatment on a shower that has a huge amount of built-up soap scum, it might require a light scrub with a sponge or brush. Then just keep rinsing.

That’s how to make soap scum shower cleaner for just pennies, not dollars.

Good luck, and enjoy your sparkly clean tub or shower.
